Edward H. "Eddie" Owens: was in the commercial department when WMTE (1340, Manistee) went on the air in 1951. "Eddie" put together a merchant promotion for the station in the mid-fifties with the slogan, “Shop at the Store with the Mike on the Door.” Merchants were given a decal for their front door, showing a microphone and advertising the radio station. Ed also came up with the slogan for Fred Storm’s Manistee Repair Shop: “Fred Storm is busiest when things are dull!” (the business included a saw and blade sharpening service). He would often team up with Steve Cole on remote broadcasts throughout Manistee County. Ed left Manistee in the late fifties for Sarasota, FL, to work in the newspaper business. He passed away in September 1996.
