Walter Maxwell: was the first Chief Engineer of WCEN (1150, Mt. Pleasant) and put the station on the air in 1948. He left WCEN in 1949 to join RCA in New Jersey. Walt remained with RCA until his retirement in 1982, managing their antenna laboratory and test range. He designed antennas for a number of satellites (including TIROS I, the first weather satellite) and later for the NASA exploration “buggies” which remain parked today on the moon! Walt retired to Florida and is still active in radio, both as an amateur radio operator (W2DU) and author of numerous articles and books about antenna and transmission line theory.
